Artist's Description
Takeo Tanimizu Zero
A6M5 Zero
CPO Takeo Tanimizu was assigned to the aircraft carrier Kasuga Maru in 1942, but wouldn't see combat until his transfer to the carrier Shokaku. He was transferred to the Tainan Air Group as part of an intercept squadron and fighter pilot training unit in Taiwan. Prior to bailing out over open water when shot down by a P-51 Mustang, Tanimizu painted his aircraft's fuselage with victory markings much the same as Allied forces. This was not common practice for Japanese aviators and it is unknown if Takeo Tanimizu continued to mark his victories on additional aircraft he flew. CPO Takeo Tanimizu would eventually complete the war with 18 confirmed victories.
